Importantly, these are natural, family, and pet-friendly pest control methods you can apply now without any cost!
Step 1: Remove water sources
Your first step is to investigate your home to find where pests may be entering and hiding. You should also check for possible food and water sources. Two areas you’ll want to be sure to check are under your sink in the kitchen and behind your refrigerator. If water is collecting in these areas, this will provide a drinking ground for rats and roaches to thrive. Every living rodent or spider needs water. Remove the water source by drying water condensation and getting any leaking pipes fixed.
Step 2: De-clutter
If you have piles of unnecessary items around your house, it’s time to get rid of them. This may include stacks of old magazines and newspapers, old shoes in the closet, and any other clutter you don’t need. These things give pests a place to hide, not to mention material for building nests. It is also harder to clean around areas of clutter, resulting in an increased food supply for many types of insects. Cardboard is especially attractive to bugs, so get rid of any empty boxes you may have to lie around.
Go through our house and gather up items that you are no longer using or no longer need. Either sell or donate these things and then organize what belongings you have left. All storage should be at least an inch off the floor and away from the walls. Keep food in tightly latched plastic containers, especially pet food.
Step 3: Clean
In this step, you remove any markings and droppings left by pests, as well as getting rid of their food sources. Vacuum, mop, and thoroughly wash all of the cabinets, countertops, and other surfaces in your home, especially under the refrigerator, oven, and kitchen sink. Use your vacuum attachments to make the job of reaching into those corners and crevices easier. Once your initial cleaning is done, continue to clean regularly to keep your house free of food and water sources. Wipe up crumbs and spills immediately, wash your dirty dishes right away, and empty your garbage before you go to bed. Leave pet bowls empty overnight and refill them in the morning. Keep your drains covered when they’re not being used as well.
If you’re facing an infestation of roaches, be sure to sweep or vacuum under furniture and in other hiding places to remove any dead roaches. These can decay into roach dust, which may trigger allergies and asthma attacks in some people.
Step 4: Close the Entrances
Next, you will need to seal the entrances pests use to get into your house. These are commonly located in kitchens and bathrooms, where pipes enter your house. Concentrate your efforts in the kitchen and bathroom, and work your way outward from there. Use cement, plaster, or caulk to seal the cracks and gaps where pests enter and apply weather stripping around your windows and doors.
Step 5: Baits
If you’ve done all of the above steps and your pest problem has not been resolved in a matter of weeks, it may be time to use some pest baits. These kill pests by poisoning them and therefore should be used with caution. Only resort to this method once all of the above steps have been taken, and keep the baits out of reach of your pets and children.

How to choose a pest control service?
There are some times when you might have the misfortune to discover an infestation going on in your home and you will want to get rid of the vermin as soon as you can. When you are rushing you might jump in for the first bug specialist that you see without even giving it a second thought. Although you have every right to be in a hurry, it is important that you spend some time to find out more about the pest controller so that you are sure you will get the best possible services at a reasonable price. There are a few things that you should definitely discuss with the company that you want to hire so that you can avoid any bad decisions that you will later regret.
When you are consider hiring a fumigation expert, the first thing that you should do is talk to some of the people you know and see if they can recommend you one. Ask around your friends, colleagues and your family if they have previously used such services and if they can recommend you a pest controller. It is highly important that you do not go making deals with the first company that you see, but rather first find people who have used it and ask them what they think. If you do not have anyone to ask, or you are afraid of talking to people about your little misfortune (which is a lot more common than you might think), then you should look around forums and other places where you can find feedback from any previous customers of the company.
Another thing that should be a factor when you choose a pest eradication company is the type of chemicals that they will operate with during the treatment process. You might be highly sensitive to some chemicals, or they might be using ones that are not safe for any pets or small children. It is a good idea to talk to your doctor about the chemicals in order to find out if there is any chance that they might cause some harm to you and your family.
The duration of the whole treatment, including any, follow-ups and guarantees is also quite important when dealing with pests. This is why you should require the expertise of an experience pest controller to give you more information about all of these activities. The time that is required by the company for the process might be of importance as you might have the need to use the room on a regular basis. Follow up is also quite important as there are some times when follow up services are required in order to completely eradicate the pests that have infested your home. You have to ask about how often this will occur and if the costs are going to be included in the upfront payment. When it comes to infestations, it is highly important that the fumigator can guarantee you to eradicate the infestation in a timely manner, providing you with clean up services, and in case of re-occurrence a follow-up procedure.
